The versatility of hamburger buns does not stop at burgers! There are many other delicious dishes that can be made with hamburger buns including:

  • Sliders
  • Pulled Pork Sandwiches
  • Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup Sandwiches
  • Ice Cream Sandwiches
  • Croutons

There are many other recipes that can be made using hamburger buns. While hamburger buns shelf life is shorter than some other breads, it is still important to store them so that they do not go bad. Hamburger buns are best stored in the refrigerator if they will be used within 3 days of purchasing them. Otherwise, hamburger buns can be frozen to extend their shelf life for up to 6 months if properly packaged.

Hamburger buns are a popular dish to make during the summer months when barbeques and cookouts are common. Leftovers such as hamburger buns should be stored properly so that they remain fresh and can continue to be used in a variety of different recipes.

Hamburger buns shelf life is about 2 weeks in the pantry or about a month in the freezer. Hamburger buns are used in many recipes including Sloppy Joe’s , homemade burgers , sliders , and hot ham and cheese sandwiches . They can also be used in making bread pudding , breakfast egg casserole , or topping a bowl of soup for a little extra crunch.

You’ll want to make sure you have hamburger buns in your kitchen when you make one of these recipes:

Hamburger Roll Bread Pudding

INGREDIENTS:

6 hamburger rolls, cubed

1 cup raisins

2 cups sugar

1 tsp Vanilla extract or Vanilla syrup

4 cups milk or 1 can Evaporated milk

2 eggs

1/2 cup butter, melted

DIRECTIONS:

Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Place in 9″ by 13″ pan and bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees fahrenheit. Yum!

Breakfast Egg Casserole

Ingredients

1 package of bacon crumbled

1 cup milk

8 hamburger buns (I like to use Hawaiian Sweet Rolls)

8 eggs

1/4 cup butter, softened

Directions:

Combine crumbled bacon, milk and eggs in a bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. In an 8×8 greased baking dish, start with a layer of hamurger buns followed by a thin layer of egg mixture. Continue this until you have used all the hamurger buns. Top with cheese and place in oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

Homemade Hamburger Roll Croutons

Ingredients:

– One package of hamburger rolls (at least 8 buns)

– Olive oil, salt, pepper, or other seasonings to taste

– Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Cut the hamburger rolls into 1/2 inch cubes.  You can use a knife or kitchen shears if you have them, but it’s just fine without them too!
  3. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray and spread the cut rolls out evenly.
  4. Lightly brush the tops of the rolls with olive oil and add salt, pepper, or other seasonings to taste. I like to sprinkle a little basil or oregano on them. Now they’re ready for baking!
  5. Bake until browned and crispy, about 10 minutes.  Make sure to turn them at least once during baking so that they brown on all sides.
  6. Let them cool and store in a resealable bag or tupperware container for a fast, easy snack!

Another great idea to do with hamburger buns is to toast them. You can use them for garlic bread or just toast them before adding your burger or pulled pork to them. For garlic bread I like to put butter on each side, then sprinkle a touch of garlic salt on them, and a smidge of basil. Then broil them in the oven or throw them in a toaster oven until just browned. They are delightful!
